We thought Vanguard volunteers were a big group last year at forty-eight people - well, that was nothing! This year almost sixty employees and their family members descended on Camphill Special School on September 19. It was a beautiful day (thank goodness, since the group was rained out the week before) and there was lots to get done.
Volunteers separated into small groups to work on a variety of projects. Parents and children revitalized the playground behind Rainbow Hall and brought it back to its former glory; a few skilled gentlemen replaced the roof of the pig house and put chicken wire on the fence; a lot of weed whacking was accomplished in the pasture by Rowan, as well as in the pig’s paddock; the pasture by Rowan also had some of its fence posts and fencing replaced; a small group organized the Lower School Library; and yet another group weeded and spread gravel on the Horizontal Path.
Whew! That’s an abundance of really wonderful people doing really wonderful things for our school. We truly and deeply thank all of our Vanguard volunteers. A special thanks goes out to Vanguard employee John Gallagher, parent of seventh grader Emily, for his amazing organization and management of this fantastic Day of Caring!
