Bequests and Other Planned Gifts

Planned giving can help you to make a more significant gift to Camphill Special School than you ever dreamed possible, and also can provide you or someone you care for with an income stream. A planned gift considers your individual and family requirements, is customized to your financial circumstances, and generates tax advantages - all while enabling you to leave a permanent legacy for those you love and for our School.

Charitable Remainder Trust

A charitable remainder trust (CRT) is a life income gift where assets are placed irrevocably in a trust. The trust then provides you or another designated beneficiary with income payments. Depending on how the trust is created, payments will continue for a fixed period of time or until the death of the beneficiary. At that time, the remaining assets would be transferred to Camphill Special School. A CRT also can offer significant tax advantages. There are two types of CRTs: Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts and Charitable Remainder Unitrusts.

The Carlo and Ursel Pietzner Society

Camphill Special School is pleased to recognize and appreciate its friends who have included the School in their estate plans by awarding them with membership in The Carlo and Ursel Pietzner Society.

Charitable Lead Trust

A Charitable Lead Trust (CLT) reverses who receives income and assets. In a CLT, Camphill Special School would receive an income stream during your lifetime, but after your death named beneficiaries would receive the majority of the CLT's assets. As with other planned gifts, there are tax benefits that accompany a CLT.

Life Insurance Policy

You may contribute a life insurance policy to Camphill Special School by naming the School either as the owner of the policy or as the beneficiary. In most cases you will be entitled to an income tax deduction limited to the lower of the fair market value of the policy or your cost basis in the contract. In addition, if you continue to pay premiums on a policy that the School owns, you may be able to deduct future premium payments.

Your Will

Everyone should complete a will. A carefully written will ensures that your estate will be distributed according to your wishes to the people and charities you care about. A bequest is the simplest way to make the kind of significant contribution to Camphill Special School that might not have been possible during your lifetime and can provide major financial and tax savings for your estate and its beneficiaries.

There are three primary kinds of bequests:

An unrestricted bequest directs that Camphill Special School receive a specific amount of property, usually cash, to be used as the School deems fit.

“I give, devise, and bequeath to Camphill Special School, Inc. the sum of $_____
for the uses and purposes of the School as the Board of Directors may determine.”

A residual bequest designates all or a portion of the remaining assets of your estate to Camphill Special School after all debts, taxes, expenses, and unrestricted bequests have been made.

“I give, devise, and bequeath to Camphill Special School, Inc. the residue (or a share of the residue) of my estate for the uses and purposes of the School as the Board of Directors may determine.”

A specific bequest directs that Camphill Special School receive a specific amount of property, usually cash, for a precise purpose.

“I give, devise, and bequeath to Camphill Special School, Inc. the sum of $___ to be used for____________________.”
