Our new state-Of-The-Art buildings:
Comfortable, ‘Green,’ and educational!

Both buildings are architecturally designed to look like Chester County farm buildings with parking behind them, maintaining the current historic appearance of Beaver Farm and the country road it sits upon.

new student residence

The entire building will be an efficient, functional, light, and cheerful home, dedicated to providing the kind of high quality of life that only a life sharing community like Camphill can offer - a place where meals are prepared and shared, birthdays are celebrated, board games are played. It also will be, however, a de facto classroom, facilitating the fulfillment of each student’s Individual Education Plan and greatly enhancing every student’s abilities and their probability of achieving an appropriate adult placement at age twenty-one.

The features of the new 11,200 sq. ft.building will be...

  • Student bedrooms, either singles or doubles with privacy barriers (increased privacy is an important step to greater independence)
  • Two student lounges, a recreation room, and a large living room
  • A dining room
  • A commercial-grade educational kitchen
  • A large boot room and a "drying room" where clothing worn in the rain while performing morning barn chores can be dried before evening chores
  • Fully handicapped accessible bathrooms with wheelchair accessible showers
  • House parent family quarters
  • Large laundry room and plenty of storage areas

The new residence will be energy efficient and environmentally conscious, including such features as a geothermal heating and cooling system and roof top solar panels to offset the geothermal system’s electrical needs; fluorescent fixtures to supply both interior lighting and illumination for external paths and parking areas; a collection system to store rain water in cisterns for grey water re-use and irrigation in organic gardens; and rain gardens to collect excess water. Additional sustainable design features include low-flow toilets, "green" insulation (cellulose or foam), formaldehyde-free sheathing, non-VOC paints, "cool" roof material, and renewable floor materials. The building also will be ADA compliant and handicapped accessible.

Our project architects, Carnevale and Eustis, are confident that our new buildings would be eligible for a New Construction LEED v2009 Silver designation.

new Education & Resource Center

The features of the new 11,200 sq. ft. building will be...

  • ADA compliance and handicapped accessibility
  • Classroom and therapy space
  • Workshop areas for pottery, candle making, textiles, other crafts, and honey bottling
  • A cultural space for musical and dramatic performances
  • An educational commercial-grade kitchen for food processing and catering programs
  • An administrative office
  • We also intend this new building to be a community resource by opening its performing arts and workshop spaces to residents of surrounding townships.
