What is the
Transition Program?
A typical Transition Program student profile includes severely disturbed motor abilities, disruptive behavior patterns, and inhibited communication skills. Yet there are few programs that adequately prepare developmentally disabled eighteen to twenty-one year olds for life beyond school.
Our Transition Program provides the special skills these students need to become contributing members of society in a meaningful and appropriate adult setting.
We do this by tailoring a specific program of continued academic, life skill, and vocational preparation for each student.
What is Beaver Farm?
Beaver Farm is fifty-six acres of pristine farm land bordering French Creek, a Pennsylvania Class I Waterway. It is run by our staff and our students. |
Why do we need new buildings?
|
Currently the Transition Program is operated out of three different locations! It is time to centralize the program at Beaver Farm, expand accommodations so that we can meet the needs of all the students who need us, and insure that our programming is totally accessible.
Work has commenced at Beaver Farm. Click here to see photos from our groundbreaking and progress so far.
How much will it cost?
Our school needs $6 million to complete the site work and construction of two new buildings at Beaver Farm. Our Sharing Life and Learning campaign is designed to raise at least $3 million and to date we have raised $2.6 million in gifts and pledges. We will borrow the remaining $3 million, but of course, the more funds we raise, the less we will need to borrow.
